Selecting the right Tyre can boost the productivity and efficiency of your operations reducing operation costs and the overall environmental footprint.
There are many different types of Forklift Tyres. As forklifts can be often used for specialised or job specific work then it will come as no surprise that there are specialised and specific forklift tyre types. The most common type of forklift tyres are Pneumatic, solid and polyurethane. Each has advantages depending on the purpose it is intended for.
Forklift Tyres generally come in two different types, Press On Forklift Tyres or Standard Fit Forklift Tyres. Press on Forklift Tyres will generally be fitted to electric forklifts or forklifts designed for primarily indoor use. Standard tyres are put on the forklift in the same way that car tyres are fitted.
Pneumatic Tyres are very similar to heavy duty truck tyres. They will be filled with air, have a thick deep thread and are made of very durable and hard wearing rubber. Pneumatic Forklift Tyres can help extend the operating life of a forklift by providing an air cushion between the forklift and the terrain. Rough terrain forklifts used pneumatic tyres due to their rugged durability and longer lifespan.
Solid Rubber Tyres are an alternative, they are more or less the same only rather than being filled with air they are solid on the wheel rim. The main benefit of these is that they won’t puncture or go flat like a pneumatic tyre, however as they do not provide an air cushion operator comfort can be affected. Solid Rubber Forklift Tyres are recommended for indoor use or light outdoor use. They are not recommended for rough terrain.
Polyurethane Wheels / Tyres are non marking and extremely hard wearing with a superior life expectancy. They are usually found on pallet trucks, power pallet trucks, reach trucks and man up lifts. Polyurethane wheels are abrasion resistant, oil and solvent resistant, have a higher load bearing capacity, are tear resistant, weather resistant, have excellent noise abatement properties, excellent electrical insulating properties and can work in both extremely hot and extremely cold temperatures.
Non Marking Forklift Tyres are widely used to eliminate black marks on warehouse floors. Grocery or food processing plants are usually required to employ them in their factories namely for hygiene reasons. Non marking tyres are available in solid, pneumatic and cushion tyres. The colours may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer but are mostly grey or white.
